Stars and Stripes New Braunfels presents... Avengers: Endgame!

April 19th, 2019
Categories:

It’s an epic event eleven years in the making at Stars and Stripes New Braunfels with the next highly-anticipated installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Avengers: Endgame!

As Tony Stark said in 2012’s The Avengers, our heroes might not be able to save the world, but they WILL avenge it! Now here we are, several films later, and that scenario has finally come true. The Avengers were not able to save the world from the big baddie Thanos in last year’s Avengers: Infinity War, so now it’s time for the team to live up to their name and avenge it. Of course, simply saying that the Avengers were ‘unable to save the world’ is putting it mildly as the supervillain Thanos actually wiped out half of all life in the entire universe! Wondering if and how our heroes are able to right such a monumental wrong is probably what makes Endgame one of the most anticipated movies of the year.

As most people probably already know, the film stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Scarlett Johannson, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, and Mark Ruffalo as everyone’s favorite superhero team. Also tagging along is Paul Rudd as Ant-Man and Brie Larson as the most recent addition to the MCU, Captain Marvel!

21 action-packed films in the last 11 years have all been leading up to this moment, and there’s no better place to enjoy that moment than Stars and Stripes New Braunfels! Click the link below and get your tickets to Avengers: Endgame today!

Stars and Stripes New Braunfels presents... Shazam!

March 30th, 2019

It’s a night of super-powered fun for the kid in all of us as Stars and Stripes New Braunfels presents the latest installment in the DC Extended Universe, Shazam!

The film tells the story of 14-year-old Billy Batson who, after performing a heroic deed, is magically gifted with superhuman abilities which transform him into an adult superhero every time he says the magic word, ‘Shazam.’ As fun as that premise sounds, however, there’s also some good comic book peril in store for Billy as he’s forced to take on the evil super-villain, Dr. Sivana! What’s a superhero without a nemesis?

Like most comic book superheroes, Shazam’s roots go all the way back to the 1940’s, only rather than Shazam, the magical man-child went by the name of Captain Marvel. Due to decades of obvious trademark conflicts with Marvel Comics’ character of the same name, DC officially changed the name of Billy’s alter-ego to Shazam in 2011 and it’s a good thing they did. With the MCU also giving their Captain Marvel a big-screen adaptation, watching superhero movies in 2019 might have been a little confusing for audiences.

Oh! And here’s another fun piece of movie trivia. Both Shazam! and Captain Marvel feature Djimon Hounsou in a supporting role.

From Warner Bros. Studios and DC Comics, it’s Shazam! and it’s playing at Stars and Stripes New Braunfels! There’s no magic word you need to say to get your tickets, just click the link below!

Stars and Stripes New Braunfels presents... Dumbo!

March 22nd, 2019
Categories:

Spring is in full bloom at Stars and Stripes New Braunfels! It’s a season of renewal, and that’s definitely the case at Walt Disney Studios as they roll out their latest live-action remake of a beloved animated classic, Dumbo!

Where the original 1941 Dumbo was primarily a series of animated vignettes focusing on the titular big-eared elephant and his life at the circus, this newest version, directed by Tim Burton, adds more of a human element to the story. Set in a time where three ring circuses are fading into obscurity, Dumbo tells the tale of a small family who are tasked by the circus ringmaster with caring for a newborn elephant with oversized ears. But after the discovery that the elephant is actually capable of flying, the circus, and its diverse crew of workers, receive a sudden resurgence in popularity. As was the case with its animated predecessor, Dumbo instills the belief that no matter who we are, or where we come from, we’re all capable of greatness.

Besides Dumbo himself, the film also features a lineup of circus-sized talent. Colin Farrell, Eva Green, Danny Devito, and Michael Keaton all star. For Devito and Keaton, as well director Tim Burton, Dumbo marks a reunion of sorts as the first time the two actors have starred opposite together since Burton’s Batman Returns. The two veteran actors undergo a role-reversal of sorts this time around, however, as Devito trades the villainous persona of The Penguin for the lovable aging ringmaster Max Medici opposite Keaton’s sinister business tycoon V.A. Vandevere.

It promises to be a night of high-flying fun at Stars and Stripes New Braunfels! Click the link below to get your tickets for Dumbo!

Stars and Stripes New Braunfels presents... Captain Marvel!

Stars and Stripes New Braunfels is going higher, further, and faster as Marvel Studios serves up the newest addition in their beloved cinematic universe, Captain Marvel!

The year is 1995. The Dot-Com Boom hits, Michael Jordan returns to the NBA, and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a shape-shifting alien race known as the Skrull invade the planet! That’s quite a lot going on, and it’s up to U.S. Air Force pilot turned cosmic superhero Carol Danvers to swoop in and save the world from an intergalactic war! Captain Marvel boasts an all-star cast including Academy Award Winner Brie Larson in the lead, as well as Jude Law, Annette Bening, Ben Mendelsohn, and last but never least, Samuel L. Jackson as everyone’s favorite super-spy, Nick Fury!

Fans will no doubt remember the post credits scene from last year’s Avengers: Infinity War where Agent Fury uses a souped-up 1990’s pager to send out a call for help. Captain Marvel takes audiences back in time and delivers the story behind said page. Since the film does take place in the 90’s, Executive Producer Kevin Feige promises an atmosphere unlike what we’ve grown accustomed to with the MCU. Setting the story in an era before the emergence of superheroes serves as a way to let Captain Marvel “carve out her own space in the Cinematic Universe,” as well as deliver a Nick Fury who’s not so well-versed in super people. Plus, characters like Ronan, Korath, and Agent Phil Coulson are able to show up! Because, SPOILER ALERT, they haven’t died yet!

The good times are alive and kicking at Stars and Stripes New Braunfels! Click the link below to get your tickets and BLAST OFF for Marvel’s Captain Marvel! Oh hey… You think the studio realized they used their own name twice? Oh well.

See you at the drive-in.

New Braunfels' Stars & Stripes Drive-In presents... The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part

Everything is Awesome at New Braunfels' Stars and Stripes Drive-In Theatre as Emmett, Lucy, Batman and the rest of their minifigure friends return for Lego Movie 2: The Second Part! In case you couldn’t tell from the title, it’s a sequel.

The film picks up five years after the events of The Lego Movie, where the bustling city of Brickopolis has since been overrun by invaders from the planet Duplo, leaving it a post-apocalyptic wasteland… but… you know? The fun kind. While the first film featured a cast of the toy line’s traditional minifigure characters, the sequel looks to incorporate characters from other Lego toy lines as well. This proved a challenge for the filmmakers who, wishing to keep the same type of movement and articulation as the actual toys, had to find creative solutions for combining the different types into one believable world. Choreographers were also brought in to create a routine incorporating the restricted movement of the different characters for “The Catchy Song,” a new number whose only line is “This song is gonna get stuck inside your head.”

No doubt it will do just that.

New Braunfels' Stars & Stripes Drive-In presents... Glass

January 11th, 2019

It’s an evening of twists and turns at New Braunfels' Stars and Stripes Drive-In as director M. Night Shyamalan delivers the third installment in a trilogy that’s been more than a decade in the making! Starring Bruce Willis, James McAvoy, and Samuel L. Jackson in the title role… it’s Glass!

It’s been almost 20 years since Jackson’s Elijah Price declared himself Mr. Glass at the surprise ending of the superhero film, Unbreakable. Despite eventually developing a huge following with audiences, the film was somewhat of a disappointment at the box office. This forced Shyamalan to shelve any hopes he might have had for a sequel and move on to other projects. The director, however, had a trick up his sleeve.

In the original script for Unbreakable, Shyamalan included a subplot where Willis’ David Dunn battled a character with multiple personalities. Ultimately, the subplot threw off the balance of the film and was cut, but not for good as the director would pick up the pieces years later and develop the story for Split. The thriller, starring James McAvoy, was a hit with audiences and box offices, and was regarded by many as Shyamalan’s triumphant return to form. This opened the door for the director to finally make the sequel to his now highly-acclaimed Unbreakable by reuniting it with his more recent hit.

In a climate now saturated with superhero films, it will be interesting to see the impact Glass has on the genre. One thing, however, is certain. When it comes to a M. Night Shyamalan film, expect the unexpected. Click the link below to get your tickets.

New Braunfels' Stars & Stripes Drive-In presents... Mary Poppins Returns

December 14th, 2018

New Braunfels' Stars and Stripes Drive-In is serving up a sugary spoonful of nostalgia as everyone’s favorite nanny soars back to the big screen in Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns!

The film, stressed by Disney as a sequel and not a remake, is set 20 years after the events of the original and tells the story of the magical Mary Poppins who, after all this time, has come back to help the Banks family once again. The film’s director Rob Marshall is certainly no stranger to musicals, having directed Disney’s 2014 adaptation of Into the Woods as well 2002’s Chicago for which he won an Academy Award. Joining Marshall in the film’s billing is a slew of other award winners. Lin-Manuel Miranda stars as the very Bert-esque Jack the Lamplighter. There’s Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Angela Lansbury, and of course, the great Emily Blunt as the practically perfect nanny herself! And as if all of that wasn’t enough to entice audiences, Mary Poppins Returns also sees the return of Dick Van Dyke as Mr. Dawes Jr., the son of Dyke’s elderly character from the original film, Mr. Dawes Sr.

Through the use of stunning visuals, whimsical dance numbers, and probably a talking cartoon animal or two, Mary Poppins Returns promises to be a long-awaited delight leaving audiences charmed and… tripping a little light fantastic! That’s the title of one of the film’s songs. To get the reference, just head to New Braunfels' Stars and Stripes and see Mary Poppins Returns! Click the link below to get your tickets today!

New Braunfels' Stars & Stripes Drive-In presents... Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

December 7th, 2018

Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is back… AGAIN! But this time, the “neighborhood” just got a lot more complicated. Swinging into New Braunfels' Stars and Stripes Drive-In, it’s Sony Animation’s Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse!

When several portals to alternate realities are opened, Miles Morales, a teen with newfound spider-like abilities must look to Peter Parker to show him the ropes… or webs… of being Spider-Man. However, Miles and Peter aren’t alone. Joining them are a host of other super-powered wall crawlers. First up is Spider-Gwen, a free-spirited heroine from a reality where Parker’s old flame Gwen Stacy is the one bitten by a radioactive spider. Next is Spider-Noir, a darker and grittier hero from the 1930’s who was, of course, also bitten by a radioactive spider. Then there’s Peni Parker, a young girl who pilots a robotic suit that is powered by… a radioactive spider, and finally the anthropomorphic Spider-Ham who is actually the result of a spider being bitten by a radioactive pig! That’s a lot of Spider-People!

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is the result of Sony Pictures’ long planned attempt to “rejuvenate” the Spider-Man franchise in an animated format and the filmmakers went all out for the occasion, developing a brand new style of animation that combines the proven techniques of 70-year-old comic art with modern CGI-animation.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is definitely the film to see and if you’re in the New Braunfels-verse, the Stars and Stripes Drive-In is the place to see it! Thwip the link below and get your tickets today!
