Stars and Stripes Lubbock presents... Captain Marvel!

March 1st, 2019
Categories:

Stars and Stripes Lubbock is going higher, further, and faster as Marvel Studios serves up the newest addition in their beloved cinematic universe, Captain Marvel!

The year is 1995. The Dot-Com Boom hits, Michael Jordan returns to the NBA, and in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a shape-shifting alien race known as the Skrull invade the planet! That’s quite a lot going on, and it’s up to U.S. Air Force pilot turned cosmic superhero Carol Danvers to swoop in and save the world from an intergalactic war! Captain Marvel boasts an all-star cast including Academy Award Winner Brie Larson in the lead, as well as Jude Law, Annette Bening, Ben Mendelsohn, and last but never least, Samuel L. Jackson as everyone’s favorite super-spy, Nick Fury!

Fans will no doubt remember the post credits scene from last year’s Avengers: Infinity War where Agent Fury uses a souped-up 1990’s pager to send out a call for help. Captain Marvel takes audiences back in time and delivers the story behind said page. Since the film does take place in the 90’s, Executive Producer Kevin Feige promises an atmosphere unlike what we’ve grown accustomed to with the MCU. Setting the story in an era before the emergence of superheroes serves as a way to let Captain Marvel “carve out her own space in the Cinematic Universe,” as well as deliver a Nick Fury who’s not so well-versed in super people. Plus, characters like Ronan, Korath, and Agent Phil Coulson are able to show up! Because, SPOILER ALERT, they haven’t died yet!

The good times are alive and kicking at Stars and Stripes Lubbock! Click the link below to get your tickets and BLAST OFF for Marvel’s Captain Marvel! Oh hey… You think the studio realized they used their own name twice? Oh well.

See you at the drive-in.

In 2010, Dreamworks' How To Train Your Dragon treated audiences to an instructional adventure of epic proportions only to be followed up four years later with even more reptile-rearing fun in How To Train Your Dragon 2! Now all your favorite dragon trainers are back and training even more dragons! But the question still remains... How?! Lubbock's Stars and Stripes Drive-In Theatre brings you that answer and more with the thrilling third installment, How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World!

The film brings us back to the island of Berk, a Viking village where dragons were once feared by humans but now, thanks to the efforts of a boy named Hiccup, coexist harmoniously. Matters are complicated though when a sinister dragon hunter, as well as a female Night Fury dragon, show up causing Hiccup and his trusty Toothless to journey off in search of a mysterious (and titular) Hidden World!

It's fun for the whole family and it's taking flight at Lubbock's Stars and Stripes, but you don't have to be from Berk to know how to get your tickets. Simply click the link below and discover How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World!

Lubbock's Stars and Stripes Drive-In presents... The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part

January 28th, 2019

Everything is Awesome at Lubbock’s Stars and Stripes Drive-In Theatre as Emmett, Lucy, Batman and the rest of their minifigure friends return for Lego Movie 2: The Second Part! In case you couldn’t tell from the title, it’s a sequel.

The film picks up five years after the events of The Lego Movie, where the bustling city of Brickopolis has since been overrun by invaders from the planet Duplo, leaving it a post-apocalyptic wasteland… but… you know? The fun kind. While the first film featured a cast of the toy line’s traditional minifigure characters, the sequel looks to incorporate characters from other Lego toy lines as well. This proved a challenge for the filmmakers who, wishing to keep the same type of movement and articulation as the actual toys, had to find creative solutions for combining the different types into one believable world. Choreographers were also brought in to create a routine incorporating the restricted movement of the different characters for “The Catchy Song,” a new number whose only line is “This song is gonna get stuck inside your head.”

No doubt it will do just that.

You’ll want to assemble your family together at Lubbock’s Stars and Stripes for this fun-filled adventure of mini proportions. Click the link below to get your tickets today!

Lubbock's Stars and Stripes Drive-In presents... Glass

January 11th, 2019
Categories:

It’s an evening of twists and turns at Lubbock’s Stars and Stripes Drive-In as director M. Night Shyamalan delivers the third installment in a trilogy that’s been more than a decade in the making! Starring Bruce Willis, James McAvoy, and Samuel L. Jackson in the title role… it’s Glass!

It’s been almost 20 years since Jackson’s Elijah Price declared himself Mr. Glass at the surprise ending of the superhero film, Unbreakable. Despite eventually developing a huge following with audiences, the film was somewhat of a disappointment at the box office. This forced Shyamalan to shelve any hopes he might have had for a sequel and move on to other projects. The director, however, had a trick up his sleeve.

In the original script for Unbreakable, Shyamalan included a subplot where Willis’ David Dunn battled a character with multiple personalities. Ultimately, the subplot threw off the balance of the film and was cut, but not for good as the director would pick up the pieces years later and develop the story for Split. The thriller, starring James McAvoy, was a hit with audiences and box offices, and was regarded by many as Shyamalan’s triumphant return to form. This opened the door for the director to finally make the sequel to his now highly-acclaimed Unbreakable by reuniting it with his more recent hit.

In a climate now saturated with superhero films, it will be interesting to see the impact Glass has on the genre. One thing, however, is certain. When it comes to a M. Night Shyamalan film, expect the unexpected.
