Lubbock's Stars and Stripes Drive-In presents... Glass

January 11th, 2019

It’s an evening of twists and turns at Lubbock’s Stars and Stripes Drive-In as director M. Night Shyamalan delivers the third installment in a trilogy that’s been more than a decade in the making! Starring Bruce Willis, James McAvoy, and Samuel L. Jackson in the title role… it’s Glass!

It’s been almost 20 years since Jackson’s Elijah Price declared himself Mr. Glass at the surprise ending of the superhero film, Unbreakable. Despite eventually developing a huge following with audiences, the film was somewhat of a disappointment at the box office. This forced Shyamalan to shelve any hopes he might have had for a sequel and move on to other projects. The director, however, had a trick up his sleeve.

In the original script for Unbreakable, Shyamalan included a subplot where Willis’ David Dunn battled a character with multiple personalities. Ultimately, the subplot threw off the balance of the film and was cut, but not for good as the director would pick up the pieces years later and develop the story for Split. The thriller, starring James McAvoy, was a hit with audiences and box offices, and was regarded by many as Shyamalan’s triumphant return to form. This opened the door for the director to finally make the sequel to his now highly-acclaimed Unbreakable by reuniting it with his more recent hit.

In a climate now saturated with superhero films, it will be interesting to see the impact Glass has on the genre. One thing, however, is certain. When it comes to a M. Night Shyamalan film, expect the unexpected.

Lubbock's Stars and Stripes Drive-In presents... Mary Poppins Returns

December 14th, 2018

Lubbock’s Stars and Stripes Drive-In is serving up a sugary spoonful of nostalgia as everyone’s favorite nanny soars back to the big screen in Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns!

The film, stressed by Disney as a sequel and not a remake, is set 20 years after the events of the original and tells the story of the magical Mary Poppins who, after all this time, has come back to help the Banks family once again. The film’s director Rob Marshall is certainly no stranger to musicals, having directed Disney’s 2014 adaptation of Into the Woods as well 2002’s Chicago for which he won an Academy Award. Joining Marshall in the film’s billing is a slew of other award winners. Lin-Manuel Miranda stars as the very Bert-esque Jack the Lamplighter. There’s Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Angela Lansbury, and of course, the great Emily Blunt as the practically perfect nanny herself! And as if all of that wasn’t enough to entice audiences, Mary Poppins Returns also sees the return of Dick Van Dyke as Mr. Dawes Jr., the son of Dyke’s elderly character from the original film, Mr. Dawes Sr.

Through the use of stunning visuals, whimsical dance numbers, and probably a talking cartoon animal or two, Mary Poppins Returns promises to be a long-awaited delight leaving audiences charmed and… tripping a little light fantastic! That’s the title of one of the film’s songs. To get the reference, just head to Lubbock’s Stars and Stripes and see Mary Poppins Returns! Click the link below to get your tickets today!

Lubbock's Stars and Stripes Drive-In presents... Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

December 7th, 2018

Your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is back… AGAIN! But this time, the “neighborhood” just got a lot more complicated. Swinging into Lubbock’s Stars and Stripes Drive-In, it’s Sony Animation’s Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse!

When several portals to alternate realities are opened, Miles Morales, a teen with newfound spider-like abilities must look to Peter Parker to show him the ropes… or webs… of being Spider-Man. However, Miles and Peter aren’t alone. Joining them are a host of other super-powered wall crawlers. First up is Spider-Gwen, a free-spirited heroine from a reality where Parker’s old flame Gwen Stacy is the one bitten by a radioactive spider. Next is Spider-Noir, a darker and grittier hero from the 1930’s who was, of course, also bitten by a radioactive spider. Then there’s Peni Parker, a young girl who pilots a robotic suit that is powered by… a radioactive spider, and finally the anthropomorphic Spider-Ham who is actually the result of a spider being bitten by a radioactive pig! That’s a lot of Spider-People!

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is the result of Sony Pictures’ long planned attempt to “rejuvenate” the Spider-Man franchise in an animated format and the filmmakers went all out for the occasion, developing a brand new style of animation that combines the proven techniques of 70-year-old comic art with modern CGI-animation.

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse is definitely the film to see and if you’re in the Lubbock-verse, the Stars and Stripes Drive-In is the place to see it! Thwip the link below and get your tickets today!

Lubbock's Stars & Stripes Drive-In presents... Ralph Breaks The Internet

November 16th, 2018

Fun for the whole family is what’s trending at Lubbock’s Stars and Stripes Drive-In as the woke baddie who’s anything but basic crushes it with his #comeback!

No idea what we’re talking about? It’s Disney’s Ralph Breaks The Internet!

It’s been six years since Wreck-It Ralph smashed his way onto the big screen as the video game villain with a heart of gold. This time Ralph, along with his best-pal Vanellope von Schweetz, are venturing out of the retro arcade and onto the World Wide Web, where Disney is able to put their timeless spin on more current topics like search engines, social media, and one of the biggest giants in pop culture… themselves! Disney fans will be delighted by one scene, in particular, where Vanellope meets the entire lineup of Disney’s princesses, many of them with their original voice actors. As strict as Disney usually is with the use of their characters, this interaction between the legendary princesses is a rare one and not to be missed!

Ralph Breaks The Internet stars John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman, returning as the voices of Ralph and Vanellope. Wonder Woman’s Gal Gadot and Hidden Figures’ Taraji P. Henson also star in the film plus, in addition to the roster of Disney princesses, Ralph Breaks The Internet also features a cameo from comic book legend Stan Lee.

And since we’re talking about the internet, now’s the perfect time for you to purchase your tickets online! Click the link below and get ready to Make Some #DriveInMemories at Lubbock’s Stars and Stripes! See you at the drive-in!
